>> Sprawling GCHS, and Opportunities Missed
Submitted by RTAwalt on Tue, 01/08/2008 - 3:06pm.Being a student of GCHS from fall of '76 through summer of '80, I remember being thankful to dodge the bullet of morning vs. afternoon sessions. No worry about having to get up before the roosters, or hoping to get home in time for dinner. My teenaged children had the chance to visit Rochester when I came up for the 25th reunion (2005), and I wanted to show them just how sprawling the old gal was...
>> 1960's Get Together
Submitted by sharon on Sun, 09/23/2007 - 11:32am. General Alumni NewsI would still like to organize a get together for all classmates of Gates Chili High School, from the class years of 1961 through 1969. This includes all graduating years from the 60's. Since so many of us were good friends with classmates from other graduating years, I think that this would give us an opportunity to see each other.

>> Memories
Submitted by Steve Thorn on Wed, 09/20/2006 - 11:14pm.Do you remember the snow storm of February 1966. School was out for about a week and a half. I think it was that storm that made me decide to move to a place with no snow. I've been in Florida now for 32 years. Just before the storm my parents left for a two week vacation to the Virgin Isands. No sooner after they left and the snow started. Soon snow plows were even stuck and left on Trabold Road. The snow drifted over the plows. Then there was the party while the folks were away. Lets see......Tom Haschmann, Jim Myers, Sandy Yeager, Barb (geessh I forget the last name). Boy did we get in trouble. I won't incriminate the "gang" but what a night after the party!!
>> Run-In With Gates Police - Class of 1966 Senior Banquet
Submitted by Thomas E. Thaney on Sun, 09/17/2006 - 11:51am.After our banquet was over we were all headed to a party at Joan and Julie Walrath's house on Chili Ave. Not wanting to draw attention to the police by parking on Chili Avenue we decided to park behind Washington Irving School Where we were met by the Gates Police when we returned from the party. They asked us all for our licenses and car registrations which none of us had because we were all driving our parents cars.
>> The Chili Grange Hall - circa 1960's
Submitted by sharon on Fri, 05/12/2006 - 10:50pm.Lou Gramm (Louie Grammatico), of the group Foreigner, was quoted in an interview about his first gig as a drummer (at the Chili Grange):
"It was a big old place that held about 200 or 300 kids. The acoustics were absolutely horrible" Gramm recalls laughing. 'It was right next to a graveyard. In between band sets, the kids used to go out in the graveyard and neck."
>> The Bus Ride Home
Submitted by sharon on Wed, 04/26/2006 - 1:42pm. EventsI lived in Chili, quite a distance from the school (in Gates), so we rode the bus back and forth. Our driver took the expressway during a large portion of our bus route. Which means, we were traveling at a pretty good rate of speed. Phil Palma (our favorite instigator), would wait until the bus driver was heading into a curve and he would scream - "left side" or "right side" to get us all to leap into seats in those areas. The Goal - well, of course, it was to have a bus accident and dump the bus on it's side. Yeah, we were crazy!
