Gates Chili High School Alumni Website

5/06/2006

I have been having some networking problems with the facilities that house all of my websites, including the GCHS Alumni website. Over the last couple of weeks I have been experiencing lost data problems. On 4/30, after going through the frustration of teaching the young techies that they have a lot to still learn, the owner of my facility contacted me, apologized profusely, and moved all my data from Houston TX to Atlanta GA.

It took me this entire week to fix some 'glitches' that the techies caused during this transferring of data. After working 16-18 hour days, I am finally back to where I was on 4/25!

Some of you had contacted me about the website being 'down'. Actually, it was never totally down, but it was limping along. I was running temporary shadow sites to work through the glitches. In the process, I lost the picture files. Since the site was still in the development stages, I had not instituted proper offsite backup. For those of you who had loaded the 85 x 85 profile pictures, I need to ask you to reload them. If you have not yet loaded a picture, you may want to use these directions to do that.

Come to the website at:
http://gates-chili-high.org/

Click on the second link (under your name) on the left side menus - 'my account'. You will see some 'folder tabs' across the top right side of the page. Click on the 'edit' tab. A new screen will open. If you scroll midway down that page, you will see the 'Upload Picture' area. Click on the 'Browse' button to choose a picture from your computer to submit for your profile picture. Once you have chosen a picture, scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on the 'Submit' button to send it to our servers.

If you don't want to do this, you can always email the picture to me at sharon@gates-chili-high.org. Or snail mail it to me at Sharon Lane, 1649 N Pacana Way, Green Valley AZ 85614.

Many of you have not completed the registration process. If you had difficulty doing this, simply contact me with the password that you would prefer to use and I will complete the registration process for you.

Also, the registration form has changed to reflect mailing address and phone number. I did this after discussing upcoming reunion events with others. I realized that if we are going to make the website useful, for class reunions, then we need multiple methods of contacting you. If you would like to make sure that you are contacted, for these events, send me your snail mail address and phone number. I will make sure that it gets installed correctly on your database record.

Keep in mind, street address and phone number will not be published on the website. They will be used for reunion notifications only. I am getting closer to a final facility plan for the Class of '66 reunion. I will contact you as soon as I have confirmed reservations.

To quickly post on the GC Alumni forums, just go to this link:
http://gates-chili-high.org/node/add/forum

1. Enter a Subject in the first box.
2. Click on the arrow to the right of the 'Forum Categories' and choose the forum best suited for your post (you may have to scroll down through the list).
3. Enter your post in the 'Body' box.
4. When you are satisfied, just scroll down to the bottom and click on the 'Submit' button.

Please post your reunion news, memories, stories, and newsworthy information you have on fellow alumni or GCHS.

Any suggestions for improving the site are welcome. We have several reunions 'in the works' this year, so keep an eye on the forums. I will gladly setup newletter features for those who are heading up their forum committees, so that they may contact their classmates on the forums. We are in our infancy stages, but I think that this method of communication will help many of us keep in contact.

By the way, the new server has been clocking in very nicely and I have encountered no lost data since the move. I am a 'happy camper'. I wish you all well and hope that your reunion plans are advancing. As usual, if you have any problems, contact me through email or the contact form on the website.

Thank you to all of you who have been helping me with the Class Rosters. These rosters will definitely help reunion committees in the future.

Take Care, Sharon Adams, GC Class of '66
